Steady
overview
Companion platform that helps student athletes navigate and balance their athletic and academic life
The Problem
Despite advancements in sports psychology, many student athletes struggle with issues such as performance anxiety, lack of motivation, and difficulty in maintaining focus during competitions, impacting their overall athletic performance and mental well-being.
We began by conducting thorough secondary and primary research. We then developed and ecosystem map to visualize the current landscape and initial opportunity areas. After synthesizing our data, we developed a journey map and identified Moments of Truth along the user journey, further highlighting opportunity areas. We then developed our initial concepts. We developed multiple iterations of different prototypes, ranging from conversational prototyping to better understand proper flow, to lo-fi prototypes to explore usability. Finally, we developed a high fidelity prototype as our final deliverable.

We began the research phase by conducting secondary research on student athletes in the US. Through our research, we found out that stress is a major issue for this population, and decided to dig further into the causes. We distributed a survey and got 48 responses from student athletes. We discovered that pressure to perform and balancing sports and academics are the two major stressors for college athletes. Based on our research data, we developed an ecosystem map to visualize the current relationships between actors and entities, and identified areas of opportunity.

During the Define phase, we developed a customer journey map based on our research. We utilized this to identify the opportunity areas along the student athlete's journey. We identified two moments of truth, and developed three ideas to address opportunity areas within the journey.
partner archetypes
Based on our ecosystem map and customer journey map, we began to explore concepts via multiple types of prototyping. First, we developed a series of walkthrough prototypes, or desktop prototypes. For this, we used legos to illustrate the athlete's journey. We got feedback from potential users and built their ideas into our model. We also conducted conversational prototyping sessions, in which a member of our group (me, in this case), acted as the 'system' and asked questions to our users. This exercise helped us determine which were the right questions, and what tone we should use to better communicate with our users. This was especially helpful while developing the onboarding process. Once we had a better idea on what our users needed, we developed an initial iteration of the screens. We got multiple rounds of feedback and took that onto developing out final prototype.
